Cambridge & Coleridge Athletic Club member Leah Wagstaff wins gold at England Athletics Age Group Indoor Championships in Sheffield
Leah Wagstaff struck gold at the recent England Athletics Age Group Indoor Championships.
The Cambridge & Coleridge Athletic Club member finished second in the Under-20 60m hurdles final at the Sheffield venue.
However, she took home the top prize by virtue of the fact that she was the top-performing English athlete in the event.
Wagstaff stopped the clock in a time of 8.64 seconds – her second best ever result over the distance having earlier registered 8.83 in her heat and 8.74 in the semi-final.
Meanwhile, it was a silver medal apiece for brother and sister George and Jasmine Christmas from their respective 1,500m races.
Elsewhere at the same meeting, the club’s high jumper Fiona Adler had a very strong competition, which was rewarded with a bronze medal with a jump of 1.65m.
This performance was also a personal best and a new club record, beating the previous mark of 1.64m that had stood since 1977.
Fellow higher jumper Omondi Owur also excelled in the high jump with a PB jump of 1.90m, which saw him finish fourth.
