Cambridge University Sports Ground plays host to South Cambs School Sport Partnership Year 5 & 6 Quadkids Athletics competitions
There was winners new and old during last week’s South Cambs School Sport Partnership Year 5 & 6 Quadkids Athletics competitions.
Thirty primary schools took part in the event, which was hosted at the Cambridge University Sports Ground on Wilberforce Road.
Quadkids is a team-based competition with five boys and five girls each competing in a 75m sprint, a 600m run, a long jump and vortex howler throw.
And there was more than a sense of familiarity about the champions in the ‘Smalls Schools’ section as Harston & Newton Primary lifted the trophy for a fourth straight year. Harston & Newton’s domination was highlighted by the fact that all of their athletes finished in the top 70 overall, while their girls filled the top four places in the individual results.
The runners-up were Bourn Primary School, closely followed by Great Abington in third.
However, the ‘Big Schools’ section produced a new victor.
Trumpington Park, who finished third 12 months ago, recorded an impressive 1,744 points to clinch the top prize for the first time.
There was also vast improvements on last year by the teams from Milton and Bassingbourn, who finished second and third respectively.
South Cambs School Sport partnership manager Claire McDonnell said: “It was a great day; it is always one of our favourite events of the year and this year certainly didn’t disappoint.
“There were some incredible performances and most importantly a lovely atmosphere as the children supported their teammates and showed great respect to their fellow competitors.”
