Cambridge United release Kai Yearn and a number of other youngsters but hope to tie Glenn McConnell down to new contract
Kai Yearn is among a batch of youngsters that are to leave Cambridge United at the end of the season.
There has been plenty of excitement around former England youth international Yearn, who became the youngest goalscorer in the club’s history when he found the back of the net against Oxford United in an EFL Cup clash in October 2021.
He was duly rewarded with a first professional deal in the summer of 2022, but with that now set to expire in the coming weeks, the decision has been taken for the 18-year-old to be released.
Greg Sandiford, Harvey Beckett, Saleem Akanbi and Tom Finch – all of whom have been at the club since Under-9s like Yearn – will also move on, as will scholars Dan Carey Evans, Pat Staszewski, Mo Habib, Liam Chadwick, George Scales and Ronan Ismail.
Attacker Glenn McConnell and Under-18s player Amaru Kaunda have both been offered extensions to their expiring deals, while contract options have been activated to retain Louis Chadwick, Brandon Njoku and Dan Barton.
George Hoddle, who was recently recalled from a loan spell at St Albans City, remains under contract until the summer of 2026.
