Cambridge United Women Under-18s fire in double figures during Junior Premier League victory over Goffs Oak
Cambridge United Under-18s scored eight goals in each half as they banished memories of an opening day defeat with a 16-0 thrashing of Goffs Oak in the Junior Premier League on Saturday, writes Robert Coe.
Midfielder Lilly Horsler hit five goals while forwards Natasha Coe and Isabella Gjergji both got hat-tricks, Holly Plummer fired in a brace and Millie Docking, Emilia Reinhardt and captain Sydney Daniels all scored one each.
Coach Sean Greygoose, however, was looking to the future as he attempts to improve on last season’s showing that saw the young U’s finish runners up in both the league and Cambridgeshire Invitational Cup.
“I think today was really important to get a result after last week’s disappointment at Wycombe,” he said. “Today was an unknown as we didn’t know much about them. The result was what it was but we all agreed there was still lots we need to tidy up and work on before our next game. However, it’s always nice to get a clean sheet and score some goals.
“This season is more important around how the players are developing and the challenges we are setting them with different styles of play and formations to make the girls more comfortable footballers. We will aim to be competitive and compete in every game, but we want to look at the bigger picture and the next steps for each individual.”
The U’s are without a fixture this weekend, with their next game against Cambridge City set for 28 September.
