Cambridge Baseball Club keen to add to its growing youth section

Cambridge Baseball Club’s youth section has grown impressively in recent years – and they are keen to give even more juniors the opportunity to play the sport.

The club, which plays matches at Coldham’s Common, started to provide youngsters with the chance to take up baseball three years ago. And now they have more than 40 children on their books with teams competing at under-10, under-12, under-14 and under-16 level.

Steven Zemke, who is the head coach of Cambridge Baseball Club’s youth programme, said: “Cambridge have had a club for decades but they never had a youth section.

“I played for the club for a few years but then I was keen to have somewhere for my son and daughter to play matches and learn the sport. We had lots of kids showing up to watch their parents play in the senior teams so it was something we decided to launch.

“It’s really grown and we’d love to be able to expand it even more. We’re also working with other clubs in the area to help grow the sport.”
