Eels once again took over the streets of Ely as the city celebrated its namesake.

The 16th Eel Day – now part of the four-day Eel Festival weekend – was held on Saturday (May 4).

Headed by Ellie the Eel, the procession featured a host of eel-related activities, which continued in all weathers.

Tracey Harding, Ely’s tourism, town centre and events manager, said: “We had hail, we had wind, we had rain, we had sun – but whatever the weather, the community groups danced and performed and were so professional and the crowd supported them and stayed with them.”
