Bastille are the first act announced for Newmarket Nights 2023
Brit award-winning, multi-platinum selling, billion-streamed Bastille will be making their Newmarket Nights debut on Friday, June 30, 2023.
The show will be part of a series celebrating the 10th anniversary of the band’s number one debut album, Bad Blood, giving fans the opportunity to hear the album played live in its entirety alongside other fan favourites.
Hailed as a trailblazing album, Bad Blood featured the international hit Pompeii and became the biggest-selling digital album of 2013. Bastille became that year’s biggest-selling global breakthrough act, with more than one billion Spotify streams earning them the British Breakthrough Act award at the 2014 Brits, along with two Grammy nominations.
Having released their third number one studio album Give Me the Future earlier this year, and with a reputation as one of the world’s most captivating live bands, Bastille spent the summer playing huge sets at festivals across the UK and beyond, including two sub-headliner spots at Reading and Leeds, drawing one of the biggest crowds of the weekend.
They also stopped off for a surprise appearance at Glastonbury, with the festival organisers having to cordon off the surrounding area at the 1,000-capacity William’s Green tent as festival-goers descended en masse to try and catch a glimpse of their secret performance.
Sophie Able, general manager of Newmarket Racecourses, said: “Having Bastille as our first announced artist of 2023 is such a delight – they’ve been on our ‘wish list’ for quite some time and can’t wait to see the mammoth performance they’ll bring to the July course.”
Newmarket Nights returned in full force in 2022, with headline performances from the likes of The Script, Anne-Marie, and Paloma Faith. The season was concluded with a sold-out set from Pete Tong and the Symphony Orchestra, which saw more than 16,000 fans descend onto the green.
