Exhibition of Carol Peace sculptures to on display at Byard Art in Cambridge
A solo exhibition of more than 40 sculptures by artist Carol Peace is going on view at Byard Art in Cambridge.
It celebrates 30 years of her creative practice for the artist who grew up in rural Cambridgeshire and studied art at Long Road Sixth Form College.
Carol is an internationally-recognised sculptor with work in private collections across the UK, Europe and America. The show collects her most beloved works.
Carol explains: “In My Hands is my favourite sculpture at the moment, to me it encompasses a lot of what it is to be human. To be here, now. I was going to put a moth in her hands as she was looking at and after nature, but as I made it, I often listened to a dark and strong song by Rhiannon Giddens called At the Purchaser’s Option: it seemed more important to look inside than at something.”
After college, Carol ran away from her loving family, and entered into a cycle of homelessness, no money, no fixed abode, no job, and no home until she bumped into her former Long Road art teacher and turned her life around.
