Gallery: Stunning outfits light up Ladies Day at Newmarket
Recognising the best-dressed racegoers at Ladies Day – day one of the three-day Newmarket July Festival – this year’s Style Awards raised the sartorial bar.
Best Dressed Lady is always the most hotly contested category and almost 1,700 entrants – a record number – donned their dresses, hats and heels on Ladies Day (Thursday, July 11).
New for 2019 was the Milliner’s Award for Best Hat, which saw official festival milliner Ana Pribylova select her favourite headpiece on the course.
Winner of Best Dressed Lady was Natalie White, a business owner from Newmarket.
“I honestly can’t believe this is happening,” she said. “I was joking with a friend that I’d only ever go to Ladies’ Day if I could win best dressed – this is the first time I’ve come and I actually have won!
“To be complimented and feel accepted by all these other women is really incredible.
“I have suffered with anxiety and this experience has given me such a confidence boost. It will definitely help my self-belief going forward.”
Megan Downes, a zoology graduate from Saffron Walden, came second, while third place went to Mollie Shaw, a landlady from Soham.
The Milliner’s Award was won by Christina Lown, a full-time mum from Hatfield.
The Cambridge Independent’s sister publication, Velvet, was media partner for the awards.
