Guest artistic director announced for Cambridge Folk Festival 2020
A new guest artistic director has been announced for the 2020 Cambridge Folk Festival.
Eddie Barcan of Splendid Events brings is returning to the role, which he held for many years, and brings experience of working with other festivals, both nationally and internationally.
As guest artistic director, Eddie will be responsible for the overall programme of the event and will work with the festival team to ensure that the festival continues to thrive as it moves through its sixth decade and beyond.
Cllr Anna Smith, Executive Councillor for Communities, said: “I am delighted to welcome Eddie back to the folk festival.
“We are very fortunate to have such an experienced guest artistic director who will be able to work with us as on the next stage in the life of this unique and much-loved festival.”
Eddie built his reputation by leading the Cambridge Folk Festival, where he managed and programmed 23 consecutive sell-outs, secured national TV and radio coverage and saw the festival gain awards, including the highest possible Greener Festival Awards for sustainability. Eddie has also programmed the Avalon Stage at Glastonbury Festival since 2005.
For over 20 years, Eddie managed the Bonfire Night fireworks, on behalf of Cambridge City Council, as well as played key roles on the city’s millennium celebrations and Olympic Torch Relay.
The dates of the 56th Festival will be July 30 to August 2, 2020 and tickets will go on sale in early December.
