How to watch famous Grantchester Boxing Day barrel race




Hundreds of spectators are expected for the only thing that’s bigger than Christmas in one Cambridgeshire village - the Grantchester Boxing Day barrel race.

The event starts at 12 noon on December 26 and people line the streets behind hay bales as teams of four battle to win a frantic relay race pushing wooden barrels along a 100-yard course through the village.

The tradition first started in the 1960s and was revived 19 years ago with great success.

The action takes place on the Coton Road, with spectators risking life and limb behind a line of straw while the barrels career past.

All are welcome to enjoy an hour of eccentric village fun followed by drinks in one of the local pubs.
