One-man play Dog/Actor on this week at the ADC, Cambridge

After a hiatus of two years due to the pandemic, Threedumb Theatre finally presents its UK tour of Dog/Actor - a double-bill of two short plays by Steven Berkoff, presented in a one-actor, 50-minute production.

The show is performed and directed by Stephen Smith, artistic director of Threedumb Theatre. The first play, Dog, follows a day in the life of a football hooligan and his beloved pitbull terrier, Roy, who changes his life.

The second play, Actor, is a spoken-word monologue which delves into the heart of the acting industry, humorously and poignantly portraying the trying life of a struggling artist.

Berkoff first presented Dog in 1993, in response to the hooliganism surrounding pub-lad-football culture, embodying male angst and insecurity in not only a racist skinhead but also his foul-mouthed pitbull terrier.

Actor was first performed in 1984 and comments on the paranoia and jealousy that some artists feel when suffering rejection after rejection. Created with zero set, zero props and a loop pedal, Dog/Actor is a unique theatrical experience. These plays are, in turn, explosive, physical, intimate, entertaining and uncomfortable.

Dog/Actor is on at the Corpus Playroom from tomorrow (Thursday, July 7) until Saturday (July 9). For more information, and to buy tickets, go to adctheatre.com.
