Pauline Hellowell, chairperson of the Lord’s Taverners Cambridgeshire region, said: “It went really well and it was a complete sell-out. We had 128 ladies attend the event, and you could have heard a pin drop in the room when Terry Waite was speaking – he was brilliant.

“He spoke about his rather harrowing experiences when he was held hostage, and it was just so interesting. It’s remarkable that somebody can come out the other side after four years of being held hostage and be so normal, as such – and talk about it. We’ve had lots of compliments [from members] so we feel quite chuffed about that.”

The Lord’s Taverners’ next event is in April, where the guest speaker will be author and columnist Allison Pearson.
