Teen rapper Elgeeuu addresses Cambridge inequality through his music
A Cambridge teen is starting to make a name for himself (he was recently contacted by ITV’s The Voice) thanks to a self-penned rap song criticising inequality within the city.
Elgeeuu (pronounced el-geedouble u), 14, who started rapping during lockdown, is a Chesterton Community College grime artist, whose real name is Liam Grogan Weyman.
His track Odd One Out has generated quite a following among his year group and online. Liam says: “Odd One Out is about my experience of inequality in Cambridge. A lot of my mates are on free school meals, and then I’ve got friends who are really well off and it just makes me feel mad that Cambridge is like this.”
He adds: “I want to talk about relatable things in my rap.”
The song is part of a 14-track album, titled 14 Frames of Mind, that the young rapper has spent months working on. A Cambridge United season ticket holder, Elgeeuu has also written a composition celebrating his love of the Us (Amber Army).
