Teenage buskers Luca Edmondson and Oakes Summerfield raise money for Cambridge Foodbank
Musicians Luca Edmondson, 14, and Oakes Summerfield, 13, busked outside the Guildhall to raise money for Cambridge City Foodbank.
Luca, a pupil at Impington Village College, has been playing guitar since he was seven. Earlier this year, he put a post on Cambridge Musician’s Circle’s Facebook group looking for fellow musicians. Oakes’ music tutor saw the post and mentioned it to Oakes – a pupil at Chesterton Community College.
Since then, the boys have developed a good friendship and busked for about four hours last Saturday (December 3). Oakes, who has played the guitar since he was 10 years old, said: “I was watching on the news about the cost of living crisis, and how some families couldn’t afford heating, so I thought I’d raise some money to help. My dad helped propose it to Luca and he helped set up everything.”

The pair’s JustGiving page has so far raised £1,258. “I just like performing in general,” said Oakes, “it’s really fun to do.” He adds that he enjoys singing “lots of old songs, like Pink Floyd – crowd-pleasers, basically.”
