Ten new Dinky Doors appear in Cambridge for a Christmas trail

Fans of street artists Dinky Doors will be excited to hear they have released 10 of their creations all at once for the public to discover.

The Grand Arcade is collaborating in the run-up to Christmas with the popular but secretive Cambridge artists, who made the beautiful miniature doors around the city, including a tiny spaceship, a Wonder Emporium selling items for 3p and an octopus’s spa.

The anonymous duo have now built 10 Dinky Doors presents that open to reveal a different sculpture inside each one. The presents have appeared dotted around the Grand Arcade shopping centre for visitors to find between now and January 23. Once you have spotted them all there will be competitions to enter based on the secrets hidden behind the doors.

Dinky Doors have been on a mission to save the world for some time now and follow instructions from a mysterious ‘Supreme Leader’ who crash-landed his spaceship in Cambridge.

They told the Cambridge Independent: “We noticed that our mission has not been working out recently, so we decided that obviously what everyone needed was a lot more Dinky Doors and we hope that this will significantly increase people’s happiness.

“The Supreme Leader who visited our planet to give us our special mission has been missing recently but we did receive a message telling us we needed to do more. We hope everyone will enjoy looking for our new Dinky Doors and discovering the presents inside.

“It’s important to us that all of our doors are accessible to the public and free to look at to ensure maximum happiness. This trail will go on until January so we hope plenty of people will have a chance to visit.

“We will be installing the presents overnight in the Grand Arcade so that shoppers will be able to start looking for them first thing on the morning of November 14. This is our biggest undertaking yet and it has been a huge labour of love.”

There are 14 other Dinky Doors around Cambridge and the fairy-sized portals can be found by downloading a trail map from dinkydoors.co.uk or ordering a printed version. Both reveal the exact locations of the hidden doors.

The Grand Arcade’s marketing manager Julie Kervadec said: “We are very excited to host 10 exclusive doors, in the shape of presents, designed for a ‘Dinky Present Hunt’ in Grand Arcade.”

After January 23, they will be auctioned off for Cambridge Street Aid and to fund more Dinky Doors in the city centre for all to enjoy.
