Held to celebrate the society’s 75th anniversary, activities included an allotment trail, building a bug hotel, crafting, and playing the human fruit machine, and there were also guided tours of the vegetable allotments, the community polytunnel, the apiary, and the chicken plots.

Displays included a history of the allotments since the formation of the society in 1947 and the tower of flowers created by Trumpington Stitchers, as well as stalls set up by the likes of Trumpington Community Orchard and the Wildlife Trust.

Dave Fox, secretary of Trumpington Allotment Society, said the day was “absolutely brilliant”, adding: “We can’t imagine that it could have gone any better really. We had 180 visitors, which is a lot more than we’ve had at previous events.”
