Cambridgeshire village pub to close down on New Year’s Day

A village pub will be closing after serving its last orders on New Year’s Day.

The landlords of The Wagon and Horses in Milton have posted a message on social media to invite customers to share a farewell drink with them over the festive period.

The search is on for new tenants to run the pub, which is owned by Elgood & Sons brewery.

Current tenant Jess Harris, who wrote the message, thanked regulars for sticking with the pub..

She said: “It is with great sadness we are to announce that New Year’s Day will be our last working day.”

And she added: “I want to take this time to thank all the customers who have supported not just George when he took over 5 years ago but me this last year and throughout covid, you are so much more than a “punter” to me, you are part of My Waggon family and it breaks my heart it has come to this!

“From Monday raffle nights, to Wednesday poker games, endless food trucks and our crazy weekends we’ve had, I have memories that will last forever. Strangers who have turned into life time friends and a pub that I now call home.

“The Waggon meant and still does mean so much to me and I’m sure a lot of you and I just want to make the next two weeks the best they possibly can be!

“Thank you to all the team who have helped us over the years! You guys mean the world to me.Now let’s have the best Christmas and see the New Year in the best way possibly!

The pub remains open, with special opening hours over the holidays. On Christmas Eve it will open from midday to midnight; on Christmas Day it will open from 11am to 2pm; on Boxing Day it will open from midday to 10pm and on New Year’s Eve the pub will open from 3pm to 2am.

Advertising for a new tenant, Elgood & Sons described it as a “traditional real ale led pub with a single bar and large secluded beer garden, featuring open fires and parking to the front of the pub which is conveniently located on a bus route.”

The brewery added: “The pub is currently offering occasional food including pop-up events. To find out more, please get in touch with Robin or Donna on 01945 583160.”
