Leading Cambridge kebab restaurant 'highly recommended' at major award ceremony

Merhaba Restaurant chef, Bektas Avci, was nominated for chef of the year at the British Kebab Awards

The ceremony took place at the Park Plaza Westminster Bridge Hotel on March 12 and Merhaba – located on East Road – was the only restaurant from Cambridge to be shortlisted.

Chef on the year was won by Mazlum Demir of the Skewd Kitchen in Barnet, while other winners included Gokyuzu in Harringay being named as ‘best value restaurant’ and Pircio in Bishop’s Stortford scooping the prize for ‘best newcomer kebab house in London/outside London’.

Bektas Avci is a highly experienced kebab specialist chef with many years spent working in the industry. Ecem İnce from the restaurant told the Cambridge Independent that staff at the establishment were “very proud” of being the only kebab restaurant from Cambridge to be nominated.
