New Indian restaurant Tawa coming soon to Cambridge
Opening on December 2, this urban Indian eatery is located at 50/60 Station Road.
Tawa Kitchen is an all-day café and restaurant which blends the authentic with the inventive to create fresh, healthy and light food with all the flavours of Indian cuisine.
Vilas Patel, the founder of Tawa Kitchen, said: "I’ve spent over 26 years working and living in Cambridge, first as an accountant and then branching out and running Cambridge Blue Sandwiches.
"After 15 years in the sandwich shop business, it seemed time to try something new and explore a cuisine I’m truly passionate about.
"Having met our amazing food consultant and chefs, the Tawa team was created and the dream of running an Indian café started to become a reality.
"Having lived in Cambridge for so many years now, I’ve loved watching the city grow into a buzzing hub for new and exciting independent cafés.
"The only thing still missing is a fresh take on Indian cuisine."
She added: “I wanted to share with others the food we eat at home; traditional in origin but with a modern twist.
“Food that is satisfying, creative, healthy but above all, delicious."
Tawa hopes to promote wellness inside and out and the food moves away from the format of stereotypical Indian restaurants serving heavy dishes concentrating on curry and rice.
The menu will include authentic Indian vegetarian, vegan, fish and meat dishes, as well as salads, from charred cauliflower and quinoa to black rice and edamame bean salad.
There will also be a chai bar offering tea blends from the classic to the quirky, as well as Tawa’s signature masala chai.
